Food Technology at Bank View High School

Design and Technology is taught to all pupils in Bank View High School from years 7 to 11 (including Base classes)
In Design and Technology pupils combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design systems and make products that meet human needs, developing confidence in using their practical skills.
Lower School (Years 7, 8 & 9)
In Food Technology the pupils follow a programme which is designed to give the pupils the ability to use the equipment in the Food Technology room safely and confidently. The pupils prepare a range of dishes that help to develop their practical skills.
The pupils should learn to:
- Understand the principles of Nutrition & Health.
- Cook predominantly savoury dishes so they are able to feed themselves and others a healthy & varied diet.
- Become competent in a range of cooking techniques.
- Understand the source, seasonality & characteristics of a broad range of ingredients.

Upper School (Years 10 & 11)
Pupils follow an examination course in either Food Technology or Resistant Materials.
In Food Technology the pupils follow the Welsh Board two year GCSE Food & Nutrition examination course. Students complete two sets of coursework throughout the course and there is a written examination to be sat in Year 11.

Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13)
Pupils are completing credits towards Open Award Accreditation
