MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)

At Bankview Spanish is taught to all pupils in key stage 3 and is available as an option subject for key stage 4. We aim to instill a love of learning languages in children through fun and engaging Spanish lessons.

Key Stage 3

Pupils have the opportunity to read, listen, write and speak in Spanish. Lessons are inclusive of all learner styles, with visual, auditory and kinaesthetic activities used in every lesson. Pupils especially enjoy Spanish speaking and listening games which help create a positive and enjoyable learning environment. Pupils are introduced to a variety of Spanish topics, such as numbers, colours, pets, hobbies, describing people, food and school. They begin with learning how to introduce themselves, move onto expressing their likes and dislikes and by the end of Year 9 they should be able to use the future tense to say what they are going to do during the holidays.

Key Stage 4

In KS4 pupils improve their Spanish skills, focusing on Speaking and Listening. They take part in a variety of role-plays, learning Spanish that they could use if they visited a Spanish speaking country. By the end of the course they should be able to hold conversations in Spanish about themselves and family, school and future and ordering food and drink.
