Refugee Week

Refugee week

Refugee Week is from June 17th to June 24th. It is a festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

On Friday we joined with hundreds of schools across the country in celebrating a ‘day of welcome’. This day leads into Refugee week the following week.

The theme for this year’s Refugee week is ‘home’- what is a home? What does home look like? what is it like to leave ‘home’ etc.

Students discussed the following themes:

  • What is a refugee?

  • Why do people become refugees?

  • How is life difficult for refugees?

  • Can you be a refugee in your own country?

  • How can we help refugees?

Each form produced a poster around the theme of ‘welcome’ for refugees, which will be on display in the hall for refugee week.
